Alcatraz Island

 

On Wednesday 23rd May I took the ferry to Alcatraz Island and yes they let me go

The Alcatraz Ferry goes from pier 33 despite what the guide books say.
The  1st view of the Island. Needs a lot of work to restore it.

The loading dock. This would have been the 1st view most prisoners got of the Island. The dilapidated building you can see above is all that is left of the governors mansion.
A prison cell. It measured 9' x 5' and was 7' high

C - D block known as seedy street. 3 stories high and there were 3 rows of these
An Isolation cell despite their name they were larger problem is with the door shut there was no light.

The recreation yard. this was surrounded by high walls and barbed wire however being out here was considered a privilege.
The officers and their families lived on the island. This is all that is left of their quarters.
